Description

Rockodrome, Rock In Rio, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil 19th January 1985 PRO-SHOT(2 Versions)
”ROCK IN RIO” was the highlight of the “Howl at the Moon” era and the final performance. This is the first set of two superb masters.
This work contains two videos from a single show: “January 19, 1985 Rio de Janeiro Performance.” These are multi-camera pro shots. Jake’s time can be roughly divided into the “Howl at the Moon” era and the “Crime and Punishment” era, with costumes and members being significantly different. “ROCK IN RIO” is a highlight of the former. During the “Howl at the Moon” era, there were several iconic pro shots, including official footage from Salt Lake City, so let’s start by looking at the overview of their activities at the time and see where they fit in.

[Daisley/Aldridge/Ailes leave]
This is the journey from Jake’s joining to 1985. The appearance at “ROCK IN RIO” was the last activity even during the “Howl at the Moon” era. There were two appearances, “January 16th” and “January 19th”, but the professional shots were only taken on the latter. In other words, it was also the last stage of the “Ozzy / Jake / Daisley / Aldridge / Ailey” formation that created “Howl at the Moon”.
This work is the highest quality version of such a classic professional shot. Moreover, it is a definitive edition that sets two different broadcasts with different contents. Now, let’s introduce the contents of each.
[DISC 1: The highest peak update master of the recently unearthed complete version]
First up is the complete pro shot of the full show. The complete version has long been popular as a gift in our shop, but this work is the upgraded master. It was released following the news of Ozzy’s death, but its visual beauty is the best ever and super natural.
While it’s not the type touted as “completely official!” because it’s a South American broadcast from the 1980s, it’s far more beautiful than the previously best gift board. The screen, with its rough dubbing marks and tape creases significantly reduced, is clearly a young Jane, with meticulous detail. Above all, there are no traces of digital processing, and while the colors are subdued at first glance, they’re natural and the details aren’t lost in the highlights. Those who have loved the previous masters will likely be amazed by the vivid visual beauty that maintains its natural texture.
[DISC 2: Another broadcast version with official sound]
DISC 2 is a different version that updates the peak in a different sense from DISC 1. It was probably broadcast separately, and instead of a complete full show, it also includes documentary scenes such as interviews and press conferences. The live scenes are also edited differently, allowing you to enjoy different angles from the complete version (DISC 1).
And above all, the quality is impressive. The vividly restored screen through digital mastering is cool, but even more so is the audio. It’s a completely official soundboard, and it’s on par with the official Salt Lake City footage. And it’s not just a quality upgrade. Listening closely, the full version includes the chorus where the microphone was pointed toward the audience, and the content of the provocation has also changed. It’s just a guess, but it’s possible that the vocals were re-recorded for a different broadcast.
As mentioned above, DISC 2 is incomplete, but it still clocks in at about 55 minutes. The gaps between songs and the drum solos are mainly omitted, with only two cuts from the Sabbath era. Jake’s version of “Over the Mountain” is also a great listen. Finally, let’s summarize the contents by comparing it with the complete version (DISC 1).
●Randy era (8 songs)
Blizzard of Oz: I Don’t Know / Mr. Crowley / Revelation (Mother Earth) / Steal Away (The Night) / Suicide Solution / Crazy Train
Diary of a Madman: Over The Mountain / Flyin’ High Again
●Other (4 songs) Howl
at the Moon: Bark At The Moon / Centre Of Eternity
Paranoid: Iron Man (★) / Paranoid (★)
Note: Items marked with “★” are only included on DSIC 1.
This was the last day of the festival, with Daisley, Aldridge, and Airey, all of whom knew Randy from the band, leaving the band. This marked a major turning point. “ROCK IN RIO” was not only a historic mega-festival, but also a major turning point in Ozzy’s history. This is the definitive set featuring two of the highest quality masters. It will be released as a two-disc set, perfectly suited to commemorating the 40th anniversary.
