Palladium, New York City, NY, USA 2nd May 1981 AMAZING SHOT
★UPGRADE & LONGER
Last year’s highly acclaimed Randy Rhoads era footage has been upgraded! A significantly longer, definitive edition is now available!
This work contains two performances at the same venue on one day. This is an audience shot from the “Palladium Theater, May 2, 1981” performance. For those who experienced the previous album “PALLADIUM 1981 THE VIDEO (Shades 2068)” released last year, this will be repeated, but let’s start from scratch again. First of all, let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the show’s position. Let’s take a bird’s-eye view of the Randy era, when members were rapidly replaced.

This was Randy’s journey until his death. The Palladium performance in this work was the same “Rudy Sarzo / Tommy Aldridge / Lindsay Bridgewater” lineup as “TRIBUTE” and the famous pro shot “AFTER HOURS.” It was particularly close to “AFTER HOURS,” four days after the famous pro shot. It was the 10th and 11th performances of the longest leg, “North America #1.” Now, let’s introduce the footage of the two performances separately.
[First half: Extended early show front row shot (approx. 34 minutes)]
First up is the early show footage. This is an audience shot that was also made official in the 30th anniversary box set of “BLIZZARD OF OZZ / DIARY OF A MADMAN.” The most upgraded section is here, and “Revelation (Mother Earth),” which was only a moment (about 4 seconds) on the previous edition, is recorded for about 4 minutes and 40 seconds.
This lengthening is very important. After all, the live scene of “AFTER HOURS” excluding interviews was 22 minutes, and the audience shot of the Chicago performance, “ROSEMONT 1982,” was about 24 minutes. In contrast, this version is actually 34 minutes long. Of course, it doesn’t reach the full show, but since you can watch “Moving Randy Rhoads” for such a long time, it is truly a rare treasure video.
And the scene gets even more intense. It’s a front-row shot. The stage unfolds before your eyes with no obstructions, and at full zoom, Ozzy’s bust fills the screen. And since this is a live concert, different from “AFTER HOURS,” both Ozzy and Randy are wild. Ozzy is even aware of the camera’s presence, and there’s even a scene where he messes around right in front of you. Apparently, a film school student ran up to the front row with a Super 8mm camera to film this, but the stunning view is like a staff archive.
[Second half: Classic late-night footage with replaced audio (approx. 20 minutes)]
The second half of this work is an audience shot of a late show at the same venue on the same day. This footage has been a long-standing staple and is familiar from our gift album “LIVE FOOTAGE 1979-1981,” but this work is the highest peak updated version. As with the previous version, it has been replaced with the best sound from the press masterpiece “PALLADIUM 1981 2ND SHOW (Zodiac 690)” after adopting the best master.
The difference is clear. Up until now, even though it was clear, it lacked freshness and was distorted, but this work is clear and crisp. As mentioned in the commentary on the new press masterpiece, it feels completely different when you watch it with audio that sounds like a soundboard. The live scene is the same as before, covering the first three songs of the show, but the pre-show “Carmina Burana” and the “Believer” that ended midway through are complemented by patching still images into the superb sound. It has been extended to about 20 minutes.
That’s a total of 54 minutes of treasured footage. Even the approximately 22-minute “AFTER HOURS” and the approximately 24-minute “ROSEMONT 1982” combined still fall short of this work. This is the best existing master and a masterpiece of ultra-realistic footage that lets you meet the genius guitarist Randy Rhoads. Experience this miraculous scene, which could not have been realized in Japan, to your heart’s content.
★ Audience shot of the “May 2, 1981 Palladium Performance.” The first half is a front-row shot of the early show, a new master of about 34 minutes that is longer than the previous edition “Shades 2068.” The second half is a standard late show video of about 20 minutes, with the audio replaced with a superb soundboard-class recording, making it the highest quality version. It is a cultural heritage that allows you to experience the extremely valuable Randy Rhoads era on-site for a total of about 54 minutes.
