Description
The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI, USA 18th May 1990 STEREO SBD
Eric Carr’s last and largest tour, the “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour,” was released on a permanent preservation press 2CD.
This work was filmed at the “May 18, 1990 Auburn Hills Performance.” It is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of the “1990 Auburn Hills SBD,” the press masterpiece “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW (Zodiac 745)” is also fresh in my memory, but this work is of course a different one. To organize the situation around that, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the activities at that time and approach the position of this work.

This is KISS from 1989 to 1991. “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW” is, as the name suggests, a live performance from October. In other words, it was a live album that was the final stage of “North America # 2.” In contrast, this work was a performance from May. It was the 11th performance of “North America # 1,” which was the early part of the tour.
This show is known for the tour’s signature pro shots, and our shop’s top-of-the-line “DETROIT MAY 1990 UPGRADE (Shades 1930)” has been extremely popular. This work is not a drop-in of the classic pro shots. It was probably the same soundboard console at the time of recording, but it’s the best version with a different route. In fact, the details are even more detailed, the separation is good, and the balance from high to low is dynamic. The pro shot sound is also of sufficient quality when accompanied by video, but if you close your eyes and focus only on the sound, it feels flatter than this work. This work is a powerful new master as a music work that does not rely on the power of video.
Such a top-notch sound is depicted in the full show at the beginning of the “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour”, which is different from the press masterpiece “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW”. Let’s organize the set by comparing it here.
●70s Classics (12 songs)
・KISS: Deuce/Strutter/Black Diamond/Cold Gin
・DESTROYER: Shout It Out Loud/God Of Thunder/Detroit Rock City

…And so it goes. “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” was performed at the Detroit performance in October, but at this point it was still “Under the Gun.” The detailed arrangements were also interesting, with “God of Thunder” being a version without a drum solo, and “Fits Like a Glove” being a rare version that showcases Gene’s unique singing style. This version was never sung again, and this soundboard is the only existing recording.
This album is a combination of the final “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW” and the opening “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour.” This is a soundboard album representing the “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour” at the same venue, but in contrasting positions. This is a masterpiece of music that allows you to enjoy the full show with the dynamic sound of a live album. Please enjoy the experience to the fullest with the Press 2CD, which will forever retain its brilliance.
★ Stereo soundboard recording of the “May 18, 1990 Auburn Hills Performance.” While the pro shots are also famous, this work is a newly discovered soundboard master. It retains even more detail than the pro shots, with a good sense of separation and a dynamic balance from high to low frequencies. Enjoy the full show with “Under The Gun,” which wasn’t available on the press masterpiece “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW” six months later, and the rare version of “God Of Thunder” without a drum solo, “Fits Like A Glove.”
