Description
This (unofficial) double CD featuring Peter Green belongs to the same series on the Virtuoso label that includes an anthology dedicated to Ry Cooder. In this case the recordings, once again all radio sources, come from BBC Sessions in 1968 and from concerts at the Carousel Ballroom in San Francisco on June 8 of the same year (source local radio KSAN-FM), on September 24, 1969 at the Kultuuritalo in Helsinki, Finland (source Yleisradio Rundradion), on November 2, 1969 at the Cue Club in Gothenburg, Sweden (source Sveriges radio), on February 1, 1970 at the Warehouse in New Orleans (WNOE-FM) and on the following March 7 at the Olympia Bruno Coquatrix in Paris (ORTF radio). Songs like “Albatross,” “Black Magic Woman,” “Rattlesnake Shake” and “The Green Manalishi,” written by Green during his time as leader of Fleetwood Mac, demonstrate his ability to transcend the confines of the blues, while classics like “Dust My Broom” and “Shake Your Money Maker” by Elmore James and “Have You Ever Loved A Woman” by Freddie King belong among the standards of the genre.
